The DS game lacks that captivating story but still the missions and class swap device are brilliantĬool, thanks. When you were suggested to start with 'fire emblem', thats fire emblem 7, was just released as fire emblem on the gba Its a brilliant game, it got me hooked into the series, played em all now and 7 along with the gamecube and wii games were the best Really liking duel strike, onto mission 11 at the momentĪs for Nelsonator, yes the fire emblem series is much better! Its a much stronger story and theres better character development + the difficulty is much more intense DS games are most likely where I'll be putting most of my gaming time for the foreseeable future.Īlso, don't think I said this before, but I actually don't mind the dark plot of Dark Conflict, I'm quite into it tbh.ĮTA: Ah, Shadow Dragon on the DS is actually a remake of the NES original, which is probably the one you meant.Īfter seeing this thread I decided to start up the advanced war series again Played the gba titles years ago and got hooked, then picked up duel strike and dark conflict for £3 (altogether). I know there's a DS game in the series, Shadow Dragon, which ONM rated pretty highly, so I may look into that. But this makes it both fun and a bit more challenging.Īh I see, it does sound more punishing than Advance Wars in that way, but it still intrigues me slightly so I may look out for it. The real big thing with the difficulty is if someone dies, they are out of your selectable characters for the rest of the game unless you restart the whole level. The games (other than the GC/Wii ones) are not linked and the gameplay is a pretty similar base across all of them. I'd start with Fire Emblem itself, but to be honest it really does not matter. And its getting the balance rightĪdvance Wars has actually been going a long time (since the late 80s (with Famicom wars), but not many people realise as it was Japan only for a long time. Like Pokemons 'it's super effective!' each unit has it's strength and weakness. I think thats a good way of putting it actually, what really adds to the strategy and depth of Advance Wars is (like Pokemon) there's a good rock-scissors-paper mentality to it.įor example helicopter gunships are effective against tanks, but very vulnerable to AA tanks, rocket launchers are devastating at range but lambs to the slaughter in close range combat, Troops aren't very effective but are cheap and can capture cities. If you don't like strategy games you may possibly not like it, but the games seem to be going fairly cheap atm so you haven't got much to lose by trying. It's pretty nails though, Trial 35 is a side-quest that appears after the 6th level, seemingly pretty early on, and it's given me so much grief, and yet it's so addictive that I keep coming back. I am enjoying it so far, definitely the best £1.98 I've spent in a while. I assume the best place to start is Dual Strike. However that probably won't happen soon 'cause I'm spending so much time on Dark Conflict - I've lost count of the amount of times I've lost Trial 35 so far lol (though I may be about to make a breakthrough - I'll find out when I continue tomorrow ).Ĭlose, but it's turn-based strategy, like Pokémon but in the context of war. Yeah, the general consensus seems to be that Dual Strike was better, I'll probably look into it in the future.
